Settlers Monument

As a first year student arriving in Grahamstown, I was shocked to see how small it was and began wondering what there was to do in this tiny town in the midst of nowhere. It is easy to feel trapped here. To feel bored by the same monotonous routine. So I began to think about what amazing things there were to do, that were being overlooked.

The first place I discovered was the Settlers Monument on a Friday evening at sunset. If the week has been tough and you need a bit of space to chill and get some perspective, take yourself up to the Settler’s Monument with some good friends, some beer and music and welcome the weekend.

There are usually a large group of people waiting to see the gorgeous sunset, so get there early to reserve a spot with the best view.
